Fall 2005 Damon Evans: Transcending Transitions BY Chris J. Starrs Becoming director of athletics at one of the best-known universities in the country is a sobering assignment, especially if the person taking the job is only 34 years old and is succeeding a legendary figure that held the position for more than 25 years. But Damon Evans, a 1988 graduate of Gainesville High School, has been working toward this kind of appointment for much of his life. Selected as director of athletics at the University of Georgia in December 2003, Evans seems to be settling nicely into the office that Vince Dooley called home for so many seasons.
